Wendy Beasley Books

Hello, thanks for visiting my website.

I was born in Brighton more years ago than I care to remember and was brought up in Chelmsford before making my final move to Norfolk where I am living, and have lived, for the biggest part of my life.

Writing has always been a part of my life since penning ‘Ponies in the Forest’ in a series of exercise books  as an 11 year old, through a couple of nonfiction books on dog sport and several years spent writing a weekly column for the International journal Dog World.

Then in what might be described as my “third age” I discovered fiction and I love it. The freedom to tell myself a story and decide how it will end is intoxicating, and whether it is a fairy-tale for the little ones or a hard hitting crime novel for the grown-ups, I can escape to another world and let my imagination run riot.

I always start writing with an idea rather than a plan and see where it takes me and, now I have discovered this incredibly rewarding pastime, I seem unable to stop; so with two books out and three waiting in the wings I think there will be a lot more to come.

I am supported and encouraged by my wonderful husband and slightly surprised grown up kids; and my grandchildren have inspired and contributed to the children’s books.

When I’m not writing I can be found enjoying my other passion which is breeding, training and working my long established line of border collies, so don’t be surprised to find a dog in most of my books.

Wendy Beasley Books Charlotte and the Fairies

Charlotte and the Fairies

ABOUT THE BOOK

Charlotte was just five years old when she moved to a new house with her Mummy and Daddy, Morgan the dog and Billy the budgie. Although she liked the new house and loved her new bigger bedroom, she still felt sad leaving her old home and a little bit strange in the new one. That was until she discovered the garden, and then everything changed, with new friends and exciting adventures. Charlotte knew about fairies as Nan had told her all about them, and when Mummy and Daddy went out and Nan looked after her, she would bring very old fairy story books with her to read to Charlotte at bedtime. She loved these stories and was really looking forward to losing her first tooth so the tooth fairy would come and take it; although deep down she didn’t really believe she would, for these were just stories, weren’t they?

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Wendy is a prolific writer, but her previous nonfiction books and articles have focused on her hobby of dogs and competitive dog training, in which she has been successful as both writer and competitor. This is a new genre prompted by her grandchildren’s love of fairy stories, encouraged and nurtured by her own. Born at a time without technology, books were a major part of Wendy’s childhood and the fairy stories read to her by her mother fired her imagination and stayed with her. Although a late starter she has more ideas for fairyland adventures, so hopefully more to come.

Absolutely loved this book…reminded me of my childhood and the books I used to enjoy. My daughter read it and I asked her to tell me about it then read it myself…I found she,d described it to me in so much detail which is proof of a well written children’s book! Just the right length for her to enjoy without it being too much of a challenge. The illustrations are stunning. Christmas presents all round and cant wait for more!

erikaqnz 5.0 out of 5 stars Sweet and Imaginative! Reviewed in the United States on July 12, 2020

Charlotte is a young girl who, along with her parents and dog (Morgan), has just moved into a new home. She awakes one night, whilst the rest of the house is still fast asleep, and is frightened by the unfamiliar that surrounds her. Just as she begins to worry about witches and monsters that may be lurking nearby, a beautiful fairy appears to hear. This is where her Fairy adventure truly begins. This was a very sweet and imaginative story. A couple of times I was reminded of Tinkerbell and her band of friends. The different fairies that possess different and unique skills. Likewise in Beasley’s story, not all of the fairies were the same. Another time I was reminded of Thumbelina. The 1993 version. Chalk it up to the imagery Beasley provided and the vividly colorful illustrations. I thoroughly enjoyed what Wendy Beasley brought to life with Charlotte and her fairy friends. I even read it a second time to my son so that he too could enjoy the beautiful illustrations. The adventure that Charlotte takes soon has her feeling more brave than even she realizes. Throughout the book Charlotte befriends a few different fairies. Each one helps her to overcome her fears in ways that are warm and fun and full of light! This is a great way to demonstrate working through new events life brings us. Hopefully we will soon see more of Charlotte and her fairies, and more of Morgan! He was a sweet and caring side character. For those with children of their own, or are just children at heart I highly recommend reading this. It is a sincere family read and would provide great conversation with younger children.

Charlotte and the fairies are such a whimsical story. What an amazing thing to find a new home, although it seems scary, to be filled with wonderful fairies. Becoming a part of their world and looking out for them is a huge task, but it seems Charlotte and MOrgan are up for the task. I enjoyed this tale and found it very well put together. It leads you into wanting to see the many more adventures that Charlotte will get into with the Fairies.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

After many years as a columnist and freelance writer, this is my first venture into the world of fiction and the book I always promised myself I would write. I am now retired, so cannot be accused of rushing into my literary career, and although most people might think I should be stepping away from the computer before dementia sets in, I have thoroughly enjoyed writing this story and hope readers will enjoy it as much as I have. When I’m not out walking or working my dogs, writing is my favourite go-to activity. Despite being a late starter, I am hoping to go on to add other titles to my portfolio, so perhaps the current lockdown situation due to the pandemic may well prove to be the best incentive.

This book drew me in right from the beginning and resulted in a few late nights because I was desperate to find out what happened next. A child’s life is seemingly destroyed but she grows into a strong woman who unexpectedly finds happiness and love where she’d previously lost everything. And best of all, I loved it that I was completely sent up the wrong path and just didn’t see the twist coming at the end.

Wow! What! A! Book! Wendy Beasley is a wonderful author! I love Beasts and Butterflies! It is a story that starts with a brutal tragedy but turns into a gripping tale of survival, bravery, sacrifice, salvation, happiness and the courage to take on those who are demons. The protagonist is compelling and a truly lovely person. This unique work of fiction is a mix of a coming of age tale and a thrilling mystery. I love that the book is set in a small English village and I love the prose. The author’s choice of vocabulary is amazing and I also love the flawless flow of the book. I recommend this book to everyone! Absolutely fantastic and forever memorable!
